About Svetlana Fomina

Svetlana Fomina is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans architecture, floral design, painting, and textile art. Over the past decade, she has emerged as one of the most recognized voices in contemporary felting, admired for her innovative techniques and poetic visual language.

Her work bridges fine art and fiber art, uniting classical composition with tactile, natural materials. Svetlana is especially known for her signature method of “painting with wool”—richly layered, tapestry-like images crafted entirely from fibers. Alongside these pictorial works, she also explores 3D sculptural felting, creating objects that merge wool with lace, viscose, stones, shells, and other unexpected materials. All are bound together without glue or stitching, relying solely on the transformative power of the felting process.

Drawing inspiration from nature, folklore, and vintage textile traditions, Svetlana’s creations blur the boundaries between art and utility, surface and structure. From luminous wall panels to sculptural scarves and atmospheric felted lamps, her work carries a timeless yet contemporary elegance—expressive, textured, and unmistakably her own.

In addition to her artistic practice, Svetlana is a dedicated teacher. She regularly leads online and in-person workshops, where she shares her techniques with students across the world, inspiring them to discover the expressive potential of fibers.
